FifthState of Matter Created on International Space Station: Science retested that the limits of non-existent
exploration. After the successful launch of Falcon 9 by SpaceX and NASA, the
space agency is surprising us now by announcing that the International Space Station
has generated the fifth state of matter in space. What does this mean?
It all goes back to the beginning of the universe, when
the mix of 27% dark matter and 8% dark energy created what we see. Until now,
most of the cosmos remains a mystery to humans and one of its main objectives
is to clear these unknowns.
Venturing into the Cold Atoms Laboratory test that
remains on board the International Space Station, the scientists inside it
launched one of the most fascinating experiments and the result was gratifying.
From the immensity of darkness, NASA managed to generate
the fifth state of matter. The Bose-Einstein condensate that lies between the
microscopic world (governed by quantum mechanics) and the macroscopic world
(led by classical physics) is a perfect gas of rubidium atoms that is achieved
by bringing these atoms around a temperature of - 273 ° C (0 ° Kelvin), that
is, at absolute zero.
Why
is the fifth state of matter so important?
Exploring the states of matter is a way of discovering
the genesis of the human being and of everything around us. This particular
experiment is only possible in space. It is all because the planet's gravitational
pull prevents us from reaching the right conditions to transform atoms.
But, on the International Space Station, they managed to
bring these atoms to a point where they reached a ten millionth of a degree
above absolute zero, that is, we are facing the coldest object in the entire
cosmos so far known.
However, the fact that you have reached the zero
temperature you want is not just because you are trying to get a cold object
unused. The purpose is to start the search for dark energy until exploring the
subsoil in search of planetary bodies.
This discovery represents a level closer to the cosmos.
The human being is in space studying the behavior of the elements of the
universe in the midst of his environment. On Earth the measurements change and
may not be as accurate.
Definitively creating the fifth state of matter is not a
simple thing here below or there above. In both scenarios, scientists have to
adapt to the changing environment. However, that doesn't mean they won't try.
Today another enormous discovery was achieved for humanity and it is enough to
follow the same path to discover more of what makes up the universe.
